Spending Thanksgiving in Toledo

Spending Turkey Day in Toledo region? Check out this guide and suggested itinerary to make the most of your time back home for the holiday weekend this year!

Wednesday
Getting into t-town early? Here's what is new and notable at your favorite Toledo attractions:

The Ribbon at Glass City Metropark
The Ribbon, is a 1,000 foot loop trail featuring rolling hills and soft curves for a uniquely Metroparks winter ice skating experience. The Ribbon is connected to a 5,000 square foot skating pond that offers a traditional ice rink experience for beginners and a series of special events and programs.

Heading to The Ribbon for an ice skating excursion? Inside Market Hall where you rent your skates, you can head to The Garden by Poco Piatti to grab a bite to eat, or even a local brew! Then sit by the fire and warm up at one of the cabanas located along the Ribbon.

This is the first official ice skating season at The Ribbon and they are currently taking reservations now. Click here to learn more and to make your reservation.

Toledo Museum of Art
The exhibits at the TMA are always being refocused and rotated so you won't have the same experience twice. Right now there are Three temporary exhibits on display that might peak your interest, plus one giant sculpture!

Balloon Monkey (Magenta) by Jeff Koons
This shiny sculpture is currently towering over visitors in the Libbey Court. It is a masterpiece of paradoxical power, its contradictions oscillating between mind-bending complexity and total simplicity; seriousness and play; pop culture, all 8,000 pounds of it, and yeah it is highly instagrammable!

Expanding Horizons: The Evolving Character of a Nation
This installation celebrates, complicates, and above all, aims to instill curiosity and inquiry about American art. Expanding Horizons: The Evolving Character of a Nation features more than 80 objects from TMA’s collection, exploring understudied narratives, confronting misconceptions, putting select works in conversation with each other and inviting visitors to share feedback that will help shape future installations going forward.

Jordy R. Poma: Las Curiosas
Las Curiosas is a series of sculptures inspired by women from Mishquiyacu, Peru. Curanderas or curiosas are healers and midwives who provide alternative medicine in small communities that do not have access to hospitals or doctors. They heal by using plants, the energy that surrounds a person, and knowledge that was passed on to them by their ancestors.

Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg – Machine Auguries: Toledo
The site-specific, immersive installation simulates a natural dawn chorus, the daily call and response performed by birds in the spring and summer to defend their territory and call for mates. In Ginsberg’s artwork, the natural dawn chorus is slowly taken over by artificial birds, whose calls are generated using machine learning. Drawing on the significance of the region’s location on spring migration flyways, Machine Auguries: Toledo reflects on the decline of bird populations caused by human action.

Stranahan Theater
Everyone’s favorite holiday classic comes to life in a spectacular new touring production of A Charlie Brown Christmas: Live on Stage at the Stranahan.

Imagination Station
This science center is always up to something new, and if you are home for the holiday, it could be a great opportunity to play like a kid again, or bring your young family members along to explore!
